Forgotten Photos

Soap Making

Dean Family

My mother tells me this is a photo of her step father’s family in Canonsburg Pennsylvania. Her description of what they are doing……making soap. What do you think? It is clear the first picture is later than the second. Perhaps 1920’s in the first based on the young ladies dress length. And the bottom picture, maybe in 1900 or so.

This family lived in southwest Pennsylvania. In another photo they are in front of a brick home. In that time, a brick home meant you had some money. I can only find Charles W Dean in the early years. He married Mary Vinton, and their son Ruben Riley Dean ( in lower pic, back row, third gentleman from left) was my mother’s stepfather. Ruben married Blanche Ewing in 1940. Waiting to find them in the 1940 census.
